They developed a 3-day episodic memory task with separate encoding, recollection, and retrieval phases to get to their primary hypothesis. On the first day, participants memorized a series of short, emotionally neutral stories. The next day, they recalled the stories while listening to either positive music, negative music, or silence. On the third and final day, they were asked to recall the stories again, this time without listening to music. The participants’ brain activity was recorded on the second day with fMRI scans, which detects changes in the brain’s blood flow. From the study’s results, participants who listened to emotional music while recalling neutral stories were more likely to add emotional elements into the story. Another finding was that there was an increase in amygdala, the brain’s emotional center, and hippocampus, which plays a vital role in learning and memory, for participants who recalled stories while listening to music. Plus, the fMRI scans showed “altered neural engagement” during story recollection with music, as opposed to story recollection in silence. There was also evidence of communication between the emotional memory processing parts of the brain and the visual sensory processing parts of the brain, according to the study. In other words, music has the ability to infuse emotional details into memories Ren noted that “while further research is needed, our findings have exciting implications for both everyday life and for medicine.” The study also explained how music can affect the memories of people dealing with depression, PTSD or other mental health conditions . For those individuals, their negative memories can be turned more positive and be reduced over time by “carefully chosen music.” The study pointed out that, based on these findings, music-based methods can be used in treatments for mental health conditions. He urged people not to spread fear, but did acknowledge that the risks were increasing. Putin told Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin that there was no need to frighten anyone, but agreed that many of the dangers were increasing. He also claimed that Russia’s rivals were making the situation more tense and said that, if that was what they wanted, so be it, according to a report by the Sputnik India media house. Russia would always react to any challenges, said Putin and said he believed that, when current opponents and potential partners recognized this, they would understand the importance of finding compromises to resolve issues. VERY NEW WEAPON: ORESHNIK On Thursday (December 19), Putin had described the Oreshnik as a “state-of-the-art, modern and very new weapon”. He made this statement in response to a Western campaign criticizing Russia’s latest intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM). Russian military experts claim the US and its European allies are spreading rumours and conducting a propaganda campaign about the Oreshnik missile’s abilities because they lack an air defence system capable of stopping it. A retired major-general of the Indian Army has gone on record saying that the West is trying to ridicule Russia by claiming its technology is old-fashioned and that their own air defence systems are much stronger. This story about Russia’s military equipment spread by the Western nations was “misleading”, the Indian Army veteran said. As a result, Putin is challenging the West to show whether or not their air defence systems can destroy the Oreshnik missile. He emphasised that the Oreshnik was actually a very powerful weapon and that Russia would soon begin mass producing it. Currently, the Oreshnik travels at a speed of Mach 10, or about 12,300 kilometres per hour, making it impossible for anyone in the world to intercept it. Putin, at his year-end press conference in Moscow, invited the Western experts to suggest a technological experiment—a high-tech duel—for those in the West and the US who paid them for their analyses. They could choose a target in Kiev, bunch all of their air defence and missile defence resources there, and Russia would use the Oreshnik to strike that target. Putin said they were fully ready for such an experiment. Putin added with a touch of sarcasm that he was unsure if the US and its allies fully understood the changes that Russia had made to its nuclear doctrine. According to the police, the accused, identified as Ashok Jha, a serving bus marshal at Delhi Transport Corporation’s Khanpur Depot, has been detained. “Further examination of the person is in progress to find out the reasons behind this act,” a statement from the Delhi Police stated. Sources claimed that Jha (41), during interrogation, said that he was frustrated as he was not getting his salary for the past six months.
